This blackened cow skull features a hand painted red raven inspired by a silver coin dating to around 939 CE and the Hrafnsmerki, or Raven Banner, associated with Norse rulers and warriors. The names Huginn and Muninn are written phonetically in Elder Futhark runes along either side of the skull.
In Norse mythology, Huginn and Muninn are Odin's two ravens. Their names mean Thought and Memory. Each day, they fly across the world gathering knowledge before returning to Odin to share what they have witnessed. They represent Odin's pursuit of wisdom and knowledge throughout the Nine Realms.
The Hrafnsmerki was a raven banner carried by Norse leaders and warriors. The raven held strong associations with Odin and appeared in Viking Age art and symbolism. The artwork on this skull draws inspiration from that history and honors the Allfather's sacred companions.
This skull is ideal for Odin devotional altars, offerings, and rituals centered on wisdom, knowledge, memory, and spiritual guidance.
