This box is engraved with the Gripsholm Runestone, bind runes to invoke the Norse god Loki. Within the box, there are serpents surrounded by the runes that read "HAIL LOKI." On the top of the box, it is engraved with a depiction of Loki's punishment, where his wife Sigyn sits above him, catching snake venom in a bowl to keep it from killing him. In this saga Loki is bound to a rock with his sons' entrails as chains, and a poisonous snake is placed above him, dripping venom. Sigyn sits by Loki's side and holds a bowl to catch the venom. When the bowl is full, Sigyn has to leave to empty it, and Loki's face is momentarily exposed to the venom. The punishment to Loki is due to Loki killing the god Baldr. This cycle of pain and release, with Sigyn's constant effort to alleviate Loki's suffering, continues until Loki is freed at Ragnarok.
