Blackened "only a lamb" runic altar

This piece measures roughly 20 x 9 x 8.5.

100% handmade by Rachel Shelton of Oreamnos Oddities. This item is one of a kind and will never be re-produced.

Made of pine and hand engraved. On the top of the altar is a runic circle spelling out "Only a coward waits to be taken like lamb from the fold or  fox from a trap." and on the base of the altar I have engraved repeating runes beneath the elk skull. Made up of the eldest form of the runic alphabets.

Adorned with a hand harvestedblackened elk skull I also hand cleaned and process myself. All of the bones you see for sale here I harvest and you will never find bones that have been bought to re-sell. This means everything you find is ethically sourced and cleaned without the use of harsh chemicals.

Many of my items are one of a kind and all of them are made from scratch.

More on the Elder Futhark:

The Elder Futhark (also called Elder Fuþark, Older Futhark, Old Futhark or Germanic Futhark) is the oldest form of the runic alphabets. It was a writing system used by Germanic tribes for Northwest Germanic dialects in the Migration Period. Its inscriptions are found on artifacts (including jewelry, amulets, tools, weapons, and runestones) from the 2nd to the 8th centuries.

In Scandinavia, from the late 8th century, the script was simplified to the Younger Futhark, and the Anglo-Saxons and Frisians extended the Futhark, which eventually became the Anglo-Saxon futhorc. Unlike the Anglo-Saxon futhorc and the Younger Futharks, which remained in use during the Early and the High Middle Ages respectively, knowledge of how to read the Elder Futhark was forgotten until 1865, when it was deciphered by Norwegian scholar Sophus Bugge.
