Ægishjálmr elk vertebra altar

This altar measures 11 x 5.5 inches and is made from a beautiful piece of pine. I only have one of these available.

All of my altars are 100% handmade from scratch.

I harvested this elk bone while hiking here in Idaho and each is cleaned by hand. All of my bones are sourced this way and come directly from Oreamnos Oddities.

It has a saw tooth hanger on the back so it can either be set on a table or hung from a wall.

On the face of the altar I have used a wood burning tool to engrave the wood with a Helm Of Awe.

Helm of Awe/Terror, Ægishjálmur

The Helm of Awe or Helm of Terror (Icelandic: Ægishjálmr, Old Norse Œgishjalmr) is an Icelandic magical stave. A physical object called "Helm of Terror" is referenced as one item Sigurd takes from the dragon Fafnir's hoard after he slays him in Völsunga saga.[1] Stanza 16 of Fáfnismál in the Poetic Edda also mentions:

The Helm of Awe
I wore before the sons of men
In defense of my treasure;
Amongst all, I alone was strong,
I thought to myself,
For I found no power a match for my own.

It is finished with a beautiful black ebony stain.
