This piece measures roughly 13" across the front and 9" on the sides and sits 7" tall.
100% handmade by Rachel Shelton of Oreamnos Oddities.
Made of triangular pieces of pine that have been routed on all sides, supported with wooden dowels and stained ebony. The image is a hand engraved Vegvisir and adorned with a hand harvested blackened skull I also hand cleaned and process myself.
All of the bones you see for sale here I harvest and you will never find bones that have been bought to re-sell. This means everything you find is ethically sourced and cleaned without the use of harsh chemicals.
A Vegvísir (Icelandic 'sign post' or 'wayfinder') is an icelandic magical stave intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather. The symbol is attested in the Huld Manuscript, collected in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson in 1880 (but consisting of material of earlier origin).
A leaf of the manuscript provides an image of the vegvísir, gives its name, and, in prose, declares that "if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known"
