Using a wood burning tool I have engraved the wood with Jörmungandr and within him a beautiful Dagaz rune.
This is a rune of harmonious, unexpected success. It is a balance between light and darkness; as night gives way to dawn, this gives way to day and so on. It is a beacon of light bringing forth clarity, success, and abundance in life. The time is right to embark upon a new project, but be cautious in the journey forward.
In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr (Old Norse: Jǫrmungandr, pronounced [ˈjɔrmunˌɡandr̥], meaning "huge monster"), also known as the Midgard (World) Serpent (Old Norse: Miðgarðsormr), is a sea serpent, the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children by Angrboða—the wolf Fenrir, Hel, and Jörmungandr—and tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the earth and grasp its own tail. As a result, it received the name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. When it releases its tail, Ragnarök will begin. Jörmungandr's arch-enemy is the thunder-god, Thor. It is an example of an ouroboros.
I harvest all the bones used here at Oreamnos Oddities myself and each is personally cleaned by hand. I want to create one of a kind pieces of art so the animal can continue to be honored even after death. I never sell farmed animals and everything you find here has come from within the landscape.
The bone is wire wrapped and then hammered into the wood so it is incredibly durable.
Stained black ebony, hand sanded and corners routed this would make a perfect addition to any home!
